The Harmonized Nomenclature of Goods (NHM) application is used for encoding and marking of goods within railway transport. It has been developed based on a harmonized system of goods and approved by the UIC Business Council.
The Harmonized Nomenclature of Goods application is classified as follows:
99 sections,
1,266 article positions,
4,918 article tariff items,
7,382 article tariff sub-items.
Each article tariff sub-item number consists of:
Article section number and name – first two digits (xx000000);
Article position number and name - first four digits (xxxx0000);
Article item number and name - first six digits (xxxxxx00).
In all printed copies or databases, each article section is highlighted by bold capital letters. In all databases, each section is marked with an 8-digit article number, where each of the last six digits is zero. In all printed copies or databases, each article position is highlighted by bold small letters. Each position is marked with an 8-digit article number, where each of the last four digits is zero. Each article tariff item, which is not further classified into tariff sub-items, is marked with a 6-digit number, where each of the last two digits is zero.
