On July 26, 2017, the first Bavarian-Czech railway summit was held in the border town of Furth im Wald, which dealt with the improvement of the parameters of the railway link between Prague and Munich. The summit was attended by Czech Transport Minister Dan Ťok and his Bavarian counterpart Joachim Herrmann. Both of them have signed a joint declaration on improving cross-border rail infrastructure, which aims to reduce the journey time between Prague and Munich by less than four hours by 2030.
The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ČD Cargo, Mr. Ivan Bednárik, who in the discussion answered questions about the freight transport between the two countries. Among other things, he said that "at present, the exchange of most goods with Bavaria is realized by trucks. Despite the inadequate state of the rail link, there are examples of successful rail transport - we transport, for example, cars from Nošovice to the Kelheim terminal or diesel from Krailing to the Czech Republic."
In the discussion, Mr. Bednárik also expressed his opinion on the issue of silent brake blocks.
