Flagship Project 5: TRANS4M-R – Sustainable Competitive Digital Green Rail Freight Services
ČD Cargo, a.s., through its parent company České dráhy, a.s., is participating in the European TRANS4M-R program, subtitled “Transforming Europe’s Rail Freight.”
The main objective of the TRANS4M-R project is to strengthen the role of rail freight transport as the backbone of a low-emission and resilient European logistics chain that fully meets customer needs. The project focuses on the development, validation, and practical deployment of innovative technologies through two key areas:
- Full Digital Freight Train Operation (FDFTO),
- Seamless Freight Operation.
These activities integrate modern technologies such as the Digital Automatic Coupler (DAC), software-defined systems, and digital services. Their goal is to increase rail capacity and throughput in the future while accelerating the transport of goods.
The “Seamless” component focuses on improved cross-border coordination and cooperation among railway Infrastructure Managers, which will lead to more efficient management of the railway network in Europe.
The long-term goal of the project is to create a unified European framework for rail freight transport that will enable seamless operations across borders, involving multiple carriers and various modes of transport.
ČD Cargo’s participation in this project contributes to increased rail transport safety, strengthened company competitiveness, and better interconnection of European rail networks.
