ČD Cargo contributes to climate change mitigation by transporting goods by rail. Rail freight transport is inherently energy-efficient and therefore an environmentally friendly mode of transport.
Policy on climate change mitigation and adaptation
The policy contains both the requirements arising from the applicable legislation of the Czech Republic and the obligations set by ČD Cargo to ensure a competitive and prosperous company.
Key aspects of the policy:
- More than 90 % of train performance is carried out in electric traction.
- We offer our customers transportation using green energy produced from renewable
sources. - Developing the potential of intermodal transport.
- We are increasing the interoperability of transport services in the ČD Cargo Group.
- We offer flexible solutions for new customers with regard to the transformation of a
number of industries (transport of energy chips, biomass, etc.). - We are modernizing our fleet of diesel and electric locomotives – locomotives
enabling electricity recovery and power on the AC power supply system. - We modernize railway freight wagons.
- We reduce energy consumption in buildings – by installing PV plants and
implementing energy-saving projects (insulation, modernization of heating systems,
etc.). - We are gradually replacing diesel cars with petrol and then with hybrid or electric
cars.

Policy on resource use and the circular economy
The policy contains both the requirements arising from the applicable legislation of the CzechRepublic and the obligations set by ČD Cargo for the efficient use of input material and optimization of waste management.
Key aspects of the policy:
Waste management
By introducing the internal standard “Environmental Protection in ČD Cargo”,
we accept responsibility for improving environmental protection.We have established internal procedures for waste management and its
optimization.ČD Cargo sorts waste according to types and categories at all workplaces and
cooperates with authorized companies for its disposal, recycling and further
processing.
Maintenance of railway vehicles
ČD Cargo maximizes the effort to renovate and further use material during
maintenance in order to minimize the use of input materials.When repairing locomotives and wagons, ČD Cargo uses refurbished parts in
accordance with internal maintenance procedures.
ČD Cargo complies with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 50001 standards and all valid
legislation of the Czech Republic.

- Carbon footprint of the ČD Cargo Group
- The carbon footprint is a measure of the impact of human activity on the
environment and climate change in particular. It is an indirect indicator of the
consumption of energy, products and services related to the business activities
of the ČD Cargo Group. - As part of the calculation, the boundaries of the organization were determined
by the method of operational control. For companies controlled in this way
within the ČD Cargo Group, the full value of their emissions after excluding
intra-group transactions and transactions reported in another category was
included. - The calculation of the carbon footprint of the ČD Cargo Group, was carried out
in accordance with the international GHG Protocol standard.
