"Legiovlak" in Plzeň

In morning on December 8, 2016 were on the fourth platform of Plzeň hlavní nádraží (Main station) introduced the two latest additions to the so-called Legiovlak, which is as a reminder of the history of Legionnaires operated by Czechoslovak Legionnaires. The project was for the preparation, initiated in 2011, given in life three years later, and since then the train crosses the Czech – and from next year also Slovak – cities, where this unconventional way of approaching a part of Czechoslovak history is directly linked with the establishment of the independent Czechoslovak state.

For obvious reasons, beginning with another track gauge in Czech Republic than in Russia and the lack of contemporary fleet, the train is not composed of historically accurate vehicles and in any case has no ambition to be historically accurate copies of a particular military "military transport train", which a century ago plowing track of Trans-Siberian Railway. Design of this train "only" evokes the atmosphere of that period and conditions. Therefore, vehicle interiors are all the common types, from ambulances to the command post.

Vehicles introduced in Plzeň represent two missing parts of Legiovlak, saloon car and mainly its own steam locomotive. Again, for obvious reasons, both are not the accurate vintage vehicles because saloon car was manufactured in Hungary in 1919 and 433.025 engine even after the 2nd World War in Czechoslovakia. While the saloon car was introduced in the form of a complete renovation, the steam locomotive only in a state where her thorough overhaul and commissioning is still waiting.

The ceremony, which saw the signing of several agreements, took place just in the saloon and was attended by representatives of the Czechoslovak Legionaries, Czech Railways, ČD Cargo, SŽDC and Iron Monument Club (IMC) from Plzeň, which works closely with the legionaries to renovate vehicles and also secured the acquisition of steam locomotives 433.025.

Festive train had been formed apart these two vehicles with historical buffet car series Bam and steam locomotive 313.902 IMC. The last vehicle forthcoming to Legiovlak should be a replica of Panzer Zaamurec, which was also used by the legionaries in Russia.

Legiovlak should attend Czech and Slovak cities until 2020, just after 2015 it was visited by 115,000 visitors and in 2016 already 175 000. Of this total, 25,000 pupils and students; optimistic estimates before starting the project prophesied a maximum of 100,000 a year ...
