Last- and this year bark beetle calamity in Jeseníky range is part of bigger ecological problem, but on the other side it is also challenge for railway transport. Railway undertaking, which wants to be successful in competitive environment, has to dispose of great wood wagons fleet, locomotives and also human resources. That means ČD Cargo wins because only great company is able to fulfill all customer demands.

Calamity covers extensive area from Krnov, Bruntál to Staré Město pod Sněžníkem and Králíky and Ústí nad Orlicí regions. Most important railway stations are Bruntál, Valšov and Krnov. Disposal of wood is organized by classical and non-standard ways of technologies, using single wagon loads, group of wagons and block trains. Because of loading in lot of stations on single track railways is transport demand challenging to operational technology. Capacity of loading points and loading tracks in stations is limited and capacity of tracks is also limited by dense passenger traffic. And for last but not least problem also are construction works of infrastructure manager (SŽDC).

Despite certain difficulties mentioned above in this year ČD Cargo transported around 750.000 tones of calamity wood. We would like to thank to all employees, participating on these transports.
