Considering the aim to create effective transport within the whole European network it is necessary that ČD Cargo participates in the solution of various projects, which may introduce to the company extensive knowledge within the area of science, research, active employment politics, and other areas, not only within the railway transport.
Implementation of the projects in ČDC takes place in various areas, and the participation represents a great contribution to the company. ČD Cargo in cooperation with various institutes, from the Czech Republic and abroad, participates in various projects focusing on increasing the quality of provided services and at the same time due to the projects, ČD Cargo is becoming more competitive in the European market of railway transport.
ČD Cargo, during the creation and implementation of individual projects, tries to receive a support from various external sources, in particular the funds financed from the EU, but not limited to. ČD Cargo in these projects operates as an independent applicant, when the project is resolved by the ČDC employees from the beginning, and also as a partner within the consortium comprising of the Czech and International partners.
Program title: Programme for support of applied research, experimental development, and innovation in the field of transport – DOPRAVA 2020+ (hereinafter referred to as "the Programme")
Project title: Research on the operational aspects of the intelligent end of train (hereinafter referred to as the "Project")
Within the framework of the Programme for support of applied research, experimental development, and innovation in the field of transport – DOPRAVA 2020+, co-financed by the European Union, whose managing body is the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, ČD Cargo has joined the application for financial support for the implementation of the project Research on operational aspects of the intelligent end of train as another applicant.
The aim of the Programme is to develop the transport sector through the outputs, results and impacts of the supported projects in a way that reflects societal needs, accelerates the technological and knowledge development of the country, and thus to contribute to the growth of the Czech Republic's competitiveness. The planned allocation of the Programme for 2020 – 2026 is CZK 1.95 billion. The expected average intensity of support for individual projects is 80%.
The main objective of the Project is the development and operational verification of a working sample of the "Intelligent End of Train" device. In particular, its transmission, measuring, control and power supply system will be implemented. The whole system will be verified in the operational conditions of rail freight transport. The resulting functional sample should contain components and functional algorithms to enable the realization of a prototype and subsequent mass production of a commercial product to be deployed as a constituent of interoperability on the EU railways.
This Project is implemented in cooperation with the Czech Technical University in Prague (the main beneficiary) and the companies TRS s.r.o. and Výzkumný Ústav Železniční, a.s.
The total estimated cost of the Project is CZK 9.89 million. The amount of subsidy for the entire Project is assumed to be CZK 7.29 million with the proportional part for ČD Cargo amounting to CZK 0.84 million. The implementation of the Project should be completed by December 31, 2024, in accordance with the terms of the Programme.
